Summer is a great time to spend time outside with our pets, during these months can be fun, but due to rising temperature, it can be uncomfortable and dangerous to people and even to your pets. During hot days, limit their physical activity – Adapt the intensity and duration of your workout to the temperature. Avoid exposing your dog’s paws to scorching asphalt or sand for long periods of time. If at all feasible, walk your dog on the grass.

Keep your dog’s breed in mind – Bulldogs, Boxers, Japanese Chins, and Pekingese, which have a short head and snout, have an extremely difficult time in the heat because they do not pant as well longer-nosed dogs. Use air conditioning to keep your brachycephalic dog cool.

Dogs in a closed vehicle – In just 20 minutes, the temperature inside a car can reach 100 degrees.

Keep an eye out for heat stroke symptoms – Heatstroke can be caused by extreme temperatures. Watch out for warning signs like fast heartbeat, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, and dizziness if heatstroke strikes move your pet to a cool area. Allow them to lick ice cubes or drink little amounts of icy water.

Provide a shady area for your dog to relax – Make sure they have lots of fresh, cold water and are protected from the sun and heat. Summer is not the best time to utilize a doghouse since it traps heat. Temperatures in dogs should not exceed 104 degrees.

Pet’s vaccination – Ensure that your dog’s vaccines are up to date, especially during the summer months when canines are more likely to be outside and interact with other animals.

Keep an eye out for dehydration– Be sure they have plenty of water intake. When the body loses more fluids than it takes in, dogs can get dehydrated. Fluids are lost by urination, panting, and even evaporation through their paws. When feasible, add ice to water during heat waves. Because they don’t restrict air flow, tree shade and tarps are great.
