Apply Ice for Bruises, Strains or Sprains
We humans are capable of doing things that we want or need, even if it is something extreme, we somehow find a way to be cautious and be safe around it. Some of us are wanting to hike in a steep and deep mountain or even sky dive in a 14,000 feet high up in the sky. In a view of a fact that we may face some difficulties, we still pursue those things just to make our life more exciting. Even in challenges in a long run that can swollen our feet’s or can cause some bruises if we didn’t take some cautions when just walking and bumping in a cabinet. Bruises are common when we are doing things that may have been dangerous. We apply the RICE method or the so-called Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevate. While just by walking, there can be accidents by falling and having sprains or strains and we must person the RICE method:
· Rest – Pain alerts you to a problem in your body. For the first two days after becoming injured, discontinue all the activities and get as much rest as you can. Try not to adhere to the “no pain, no gain” tenet. Doing so while suffering from some ailments, such as a moderate to severe ankle sprain, may worsen the harm and prolong your rehabilitation. For the first 24 to 48 hours following an injury, doctors advise against putting weight on the affected area. Resting also assists in avoiding more bruising.
· Ice – Putting ice can lessen the swollen areas and may also reduce the pain that you are experiencing. During the first 24 to 48 hours following your accident, apply an ice pack (wrapped with a light, absorbent towel to assist
avoid frostbite) for 15-20 minutes per two to three hours. No ice pack on hand? The perfect solution is a package of frozen corn or peas.
· Compression – After putting ice, it is a must to put a bandage in the swollen area, this will give pressure to it. Attach an elastic bandage to the affected region (like an ACE bandage). You want it to be snug but not too tight because if it is, blood flow would be obstructed. Loosen the bandage if the skin beneath the wrap turns blue or it becomes cold, numb, or tingly. If these symptoms don’t go away straight away, get medical attention right away.
· Elevation – This will give the swollen area the proper blood circulation to the area whereas it was sprained, strained, or bruised. You can put a pillow to lay it down and give it a good resting position.
